Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation, cosmetic tattooing, and Intradermal Pigmentation, is a revolutionary cosmetic technique which involves depositing colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis.
Permanent Makeup (or PMU) uses very fine needles to make tiny perforations in the skin through different techniques. It produces articulate designs that resemble makeup which is commonly done on lips, eyelids, and eyebrows.
Each procedure takes between 1 to 4 hours, depending on many factors such as its complexity, the skin's reaction and retention to the procedure and pigment, and the artist's experience and technique. PMU procedures are performed using various devices, including the traditional tattoo coil machines, the pen or rotary machine (includes the digital rotary machines) and the non-machine or hand device.
The process includes a consultation, the application of pigment, and at least one or more follow up visits for evaluating the healed design work and color of the pigment. Qualified artists use an anesthetic to numb the area being tattooed. At first, the color will appear brighter or darker, but over time, it will fade. The area may be swollen within 2-5 days and crust may form before healing just like a normal tattoo.
Permanent makeup has been commonly used as a cosmetic enhancement. It’s used as a cover-up for stretch marks, birthmarks, age spots, and uneven discolorations. The procedure helps for those who are suffering in medical conditions like alopecia, vitiligo, and people who underwent chemotherapy.
Please carefully review the list of conditions below to determine if any of these apply to you. If so, you must discuss with Fernanda at Lilac Lash and Beauty to ensure that this service is right for you before booking your appointment.

What is Microblading?
Microblading is a cosmetic tattoo performed using a hand tool with ultra-fine needles and each individual ‘hair’ is gently etched into the skin, cutting the surface of the skin to implant pigment in the top layer of the skin.
Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type and skin care routine. Annual touch ups are recommended.
Microblading can correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrows and is excellent to correct symmetry, for those with sparse or full brows, over-plucked brows, those wanting to enhance their brows by adding a few hair strokes in sparse areas, or those who have just had enough of filling in their brows with makeup every morning!
My goal with all brow services is to create extremely natural and realistic brows that do not look "done" nor penciled in. Think of the type of brows you would want to wake up on a Sunday morning with! Clients can always add makeup on top for special occasions if they want a more dramatic look.
NOTE: Most people are better suited for a powder brow than microblading.
Microblading, although an excellent option for a natural look, works best on people with small pores, non-oily skin, non-dry skin, no skin conditions or problems, and no health issues. Because of the nature of the technique of microblading being a bit more traumatic to the skin, powder brows is recommended for people of all skin types and health conditions.

What is Powder Brows?
Powder brow is a shading technique done using a tattoo machine with a tiny acupuncture needle to deposit pigment into the skin. Trained Artists use a small needle to place pigment into the skin with a pendulum hand motion, resulting in a pixelated effect of powder makeup. In order to add density, the artists can layer the pixels repetitively, which will appear as though the brow was filled in with a pencil or brow pomade. Pigments are chosen to match the natural or desired brow colour and skin tone will also be taken into consideration.
The result is a natural-looking, pixel effect that adds density and soft definition to the brows. The art in shading is to layer the pixels perfectly without appearing denser and darker then your natural eyebrow hair. When done on the right person and with the right technique, a powder brow can actually look more natural than microblading. It will definitely last much longer.
Results last 1-3 years before a touch up is required.
Touchups are recommended to maintain the original shape and color of the eyebrow tattoo. Without touchups, the shape will shrink and begin to look mismatched, and the color will fade or discolor over time.
To find out if this is the best technique for you, please feel free to send a picture to info@lilaclashandbeauty.com for a brow analysis and virtual consultation to see what technique is the best fit for you.
Note: Combination brows utilizes both techniques of Microblading and Powder brows to create a hairy front of the brow and a shaded tail. It is the best of both worlds!

Permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because pigment is tattooed into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo or colorant (pigment) in general, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance referred to as color re-enhancement or color refreshing.
Both techniques are forms of cosmetic tattooing. They both involve depositing pigment into the skin (therefore, a tattoo), however the way they are deposited, and the aesthetic result, is different. A powder brow is done with a small machine that creates pixelation. Microblading is done with a manual tool to create lines resembling hair strokes. Both can look extremely natural when done on the correct skin type. Microblading is suitable for people with dry, taught, skin with no visible capillaries. Whereas powder brows can be done on every skin type (thick, oily, mature, etc.) Generally, I highly recommend a powder brow to everyone for the best long term results as it is less traumatic on the skin, heals easier, and looks better for longer.
Permanent makeup typically lasts 1-5 years, depending on technique, skin type and age. Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment. Those who use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid with experience accelerated fading as your skin is regenerating faster. Each individual’s color retention within the skin will vary. To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-24 months. Clients with oily skin may require more frequent touch ups (as early as 6-8 months post).
Unfortunately, the technique best for you is not always based on your preference, it is based on your skin. Your skin and your health are going to dictate how well the permanent makeup heals. The goal is to achieve the most natural, true to color healed result that will last you many years. If we pick the incorrect technique for your skin, your permanent makeup will show it by lightening up too much, fading completely in few months, healing a different undesirable color, or healing traumatically with scar tissue. In order to avoid that, I will always recommend the Powder technique.
Whereas Microblading is only suited for about 10% of people, Powder is the best technique for people of all different skin types, health situations, and lifestyles. This is because Microblading involves cutting the skin which causes trauma. Powder Brows penetrates the skin with a needle to deposit color, which is much more gentle on the skin and lasts so much longer on everyone.
Each procedure will vary. Expect an appointment to last about 2-4 hours. First, I will meticulously measure and shape your brows into a beautiful shape based on your facial features and the golden ratio. Next, the color will be selected. Only once the client approves of both will the procedure begin. Treatment is done using sterile and disposable pigments with the highest standards in the PMU industry.
Microblading is more painful than Powder Brows. Some have compared it to paper cuts, or "lots of scratches" and usually say the tweezing is worse than the microblading. Many of my clients say they can barely feel the powder brow technique. Some say it's only a little pinchy. The discomfort will only last for the first pass which takes about 5-10 minutes. After that, a strong numbing gel is applied and you won't feel anything... so much so that some people fall asleep!
Please scroll down and read below "What to expect after my appointment"
It can be found under "IMPORTANT PRE CARE", where I go into detail about what to do and not do, beginning 30 days before your appointment.
IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUS PERMANENT MAKEUP OR MICROBLADING I NEED TO SEE IT TO DETERMINE IF I CAN WORK OVER IT OR NOT.
As a permanent makeup professional, I know what to look for when looking at prior work, skin, possible scar tissue, undertone, etc. I cannot make a determination without looking at your skin in person. Pictures will not suffice.
Please book for a free consultation, and I will give you my best recommendation and pricing during the consultation. That appointment lasts no longer than 30 minutes.
Please note that even if you have had microblading in the past, your appointment with me is considered (and charged as) an initial appointment, not a touch up appointment. These appointments are more difficult and require more work.
In most cases, no. Everything is discussed via phone or email prior to booking. An in-person consultation is done during your initial brow appointment. However, if you have had previous microblading or permanent makeup, skin issues, scar tissues, or medical issues requiring discussion, a separate consultation will be needed. Please contact me directly with any questions. If you would like to come in on a separate day prior to your appointment for me to roughly draw the shape and discuss any other concerns, there is a $50 charge which will be applied to the procedure.
Botox and other neurotoxins freeze the muscles in your face, changing the structure and look of your features. Please wait two weeks before or after your appointment to get neurotoxins.
Skin must not be damaged in any way (e.g. sunburn, eczema, dermatitis, acne) in the eyebrow area. If any of these concerns arise, please contact me to reschedule.
Do not book an appointment before a vacation or anytime you will be getting wet, sweating excessively, or in the sun. You cannot swim for 2 weeks after. You can not wear makeup for 7 days post procedure so please consider the timing of upcoming events when choosing a date. Specifically eyeshadow, foundation and powder (anything that can get into the brows) can cause an infection.
Women experience more sensitivity to pain during their period, so avoid that time too!
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we must wait until you are done breastfeeding to perform the procedure.

Discontinue:
Due to your procedure being a form of semi-permanent tattooing, you must allow 6-8 weeks for full healing. Therefore, ensure that you book your procedure with all special events/vacations in mind. The eyebrows will go through a few different visible stages so keep that in mind if there are any event/family photography coming up.
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
*Blood thinners will increase bleeding during the procedure. If blood is coming out, pigment can not go in and therefore, your healed results will be jeopardized.
Day 1 - 5: Brows will appear darker in color. They appear darker because the scabs begin to form. It is important not to pick the scabs as this will result in lost pigment.
Day 5 - 9: As the scabs start falling off, brows may appear patchy, flaky, and feel itchy. Do not pick the scabs! Doing so will remove pigment!
Day 9 - 12: The brows may look light or milky. This is because a new layer of skin is growing over top to protect the area while it finishes healing. This is completely normal and the color will come back as this layer of skin settles and sheds.
Day 12 - 21: The pigment will reappear and the brows will darken. The final healed result will be seen around the 3 week mark.
Any strokes or pigment that did not "re-appear" will be added back at the touch up appointment 6 weeks later. You must book this appointment and it is not iuncluded with your initial appointment price, but it is necessary for best results
At the touch up appointment, we can make the brows darker, fill in any missing gaps, or go slightly thicker but an entirely new brow shape will be considered a full appointment.
It is imperative that you wear SPF 40+ on your brows when outside to keep them looking fresh for longer and prevent color fading/changing. Even if you are only outside to drive to and from work, keep in mind that the left eyebrow may experience fading faster than the right unless you reapply sunscreen as needed.
